Hello Swing Kids!
This weekend we have tons of things going on!
- Friday night (Tonight!) we will be having our regularly scheduled lessons in SOUTHGATE Gym on East Campus at 8pm! Special TSDS guests, Jason Sager and Laura Windley, will be here to teach us the lindy hop! Lindy hop evolved in Harlem, New York City in the 1920s and ’30s and is the staple dance of the swing family.
- Saturday Stunts Practice, will be out on the Clocktower (Crowell) Quad on West from 2-4pm. If you have attended 3-4 lessons, you are welcome to join! Remember: “why lift weights when you can lift girls?”
- Saturday Night, “The Joint is Jumpin: Music from the Swing Era” will be at 8pm in Reynold’s Theater! This event is free. Join Duke Jazz Ensemble and Opera workshop for a show of 40′s classics! Duke Swing Dance Club will be dancing so you don’t want to miss is!
- Swing for Scraps: Saturday Night, come out to the Duke Gardens at the Doris Duke Center to raise money for the Scrap Exchange. The dance will feature DJs Chris Owens and Laura Windley playing classic East Coast swing tunes. And if you come to Jason Sager’s beginner lesson at 7 p.m. (included in ticket price), you can learn basic moves that will serve you all night!
Hope to see you at all of these fantastic events!
